We've been looking for a car pretty diligently since the beginning of July and now we need one in the next 2 weeks before we drive our current car back to Minnesota where it will stay with its real owners, Steve's parents. Our top pick right now is a Hyundai Elantra. We've been doing most of our searching through ksl.com's car classifieds search engine. Our ideal car is: gas efficient, <$6500, <90K miles, and will last for a long while... us and every other college student in Utah.
Any suggestions on cars you or your friends/family have had success with or good resources to finding a car?

I'd recommend that you subscribe to consumer reports for a month, it costs a few bucks for a month (online access), then you can see what the range should be for a car, and you can also see its reliability history, etc... We lived by that.
Also, we used http://www.automart.com/ to search for cars in our area - but note, that is just the listed price, you can negotiated for less, especially if you play the game well. Good luck, we went through it just last week, boy are we glad it's over.
ps. 90K is a lot, if you could spend a bit more, you could get one with less miles that would last many more years
Car shopping sounds fun! I can't say I've ever done it, but Steve and I recently rented a Chevy HHR and a PT Cruiser, and they were both very fun, roomy, and got pretty good mileage :)
